Red Carpet Review

Last night, the Red Carpet at the 84th Annual Academy Awards played host to Hollywood’s finest entertainers. In the most famous fashion show, designers showcased their gorgeous couture creations under the intense scrutiny of paparazzi, bloggers and viewers alike. This year, it was the 1920s old Hollywood glamor, as well as bold whites and reds that took the prize.

In a sea of black tuxedos, it’s important for the leading ladies to stand apart from their arm candy. Classic silhouettes, glitzy sparkles and vintage patterns topped the Best Dressed Lists. Brilliant white gowns usually get stuck with a matrimonial reputation, but stars like Rooney Mara, Octavia Spencer and Gwyneth Paltrow proved that white is the perfect celebratory choice!

Red is a classic head-turner, and these ladies did it justice! Michelle William’s strapless Louis Vuitton gown was a crowd favorite, and Emma Stone dared to keep her dress and hair in the same color family. Natalie Portman’s vintage polka-dotted Dior was perfectly fitting with the night’s old Hollywood glamor.

Some Red Carpet fashions garnered a little more publicity than intended – and some caused quite a stir! Sacha Baron Cohen was escorted from the premises after showing up dressed as his newest character, the Dictator, and purposefully spilling an urn of “ashes” all over Ryan Seacrest’s tuxedo. Angelina Jolie’s bold leggy pose in her velvet Versace gown led to its own Twitter account – check out @AngiesRightLeg, which has over 19,000 followers!
