Indulge in your Vices: Chocolate, Wine, & Coffee… oh my!

People often are told not to fall victim to their vices- yet if your vices include chocolate, wine, and/or coffee- that rule really doesn’t apply to you (lucky!). Keep in mind that too much of anything isn’t great for you, but a glass of wine a night, coffee in the morning, or dark chocolate for dessert can actually be healthy for you! Here is why…

benefits of wine

  • Cheers to Health & Drink Up:
  • + Often times I feel like my memory doesn’t work like it used to, who knew all I needed was a bit of vino? Red wine helps to prevent clots (much like chocolate) & inflammation in the blood vessels- both of which will help to improve the cognitive function in your brain.
  • + Alcohol is also known to aid in burning extra calories- wine drinkers have been known to be thinner than non-wine drinkers.
  • + Got a tummy ache? What a pain! They say red wine can fight stomach infections such as h.pylori (which causes a variety of stomach issues), as well as food poisoning. If you can stomach it, drink it.
  • + Wine has been shown to boost estrogen levels, a hormone which slows down the deterioration of your bones. Thus, wine drinkers have a higher bone mass.
  • benefits of coffee
  • The Benefits of a Cup of Jo:
  • + It safe guards your heart and lowers your chance of having a stroke due to its huge amount of antioxidants! In the long term coffee could also help lower your blood pressure.
  • + Those same antioxidants we discussed above also help to decrease your risk of getting diabetes.
  • + Your morning cup (or maybe even 2) is also great for your brain as it helps ward off cell damage and improves your cognitive function, thus preventing dementia & Alzheimer’s.
  • + Toss the Advil! For reasons not completely known, coffee helps ease the pain of headaches/migraines.
  • + Instead of drinking it, brew a pot for your hair. Applying coffee to your locks can help increase hair growth & shine.
  • + Last but not least, topical products that use coffee in them can help brighten your skin, get rid of undereye circles, and reduce cellulite. Don’t apply it directly to your face, yet instead find products that already have it mixed in.
  • benefits of chocolate
  • Spoil your Sweet Tooth:
  • + Eating about 2oz of chocolate a week has been shown to reduce the risk of a stroke.
  • + Chocolate lovers are also known to have lower blood pressure, lower risk of heart disease, and lower cholesterol (the bad kind).
  • + If you are looking to drop a few pounds, snack on some dark chocolate. Its fiber content will help keep you full, and you will stay full longer- preventing you from consuming too many unhealthy snacks.
  • + The antioxidants in chocolate, called flavonoids, help to protect your skin from the sun’s dangerous UV rays.
  • + They often say people turn to chocolate when feeling a bit down in the dumps- and for good reason! Chocolate boosts your mood and helps to reduce stress.
  • + Having issues with your circulation? Chocolate actually has properties that helps to prevent clotting & improves circulation.
  • + Chocolate improves the blood flow to your brain as well, which will not only improve your vision but will also make you feel more alert & aware.

    When feeling low
    It’s down I go
To the bottom shelf of the fridge.
    To hunt and find
    The bottle of great wine
That makes me feel so fine.
    And then there’s a cry,
    “You’ve left me behind”
And my hand reaches out once more.
    I head for the door.
Snuggle up on the sofa and under a throw
Me, the chocolate and wine go.
