How to: Find Your Accurate Face Shape.

Have you ever asked a friend or a family member what they would consider to be the shape of your face? Well, I have, and the responses jump around from oval to triangle to heart and most recently, diamond. Who knew there were so many options to choose from?? Knowing the shape of your face is crucial when it comes to getting the right haircut, finding out what hats and sunglasses are best for you, and even which way you should contour your facial features (all of which are very important). I hate to say that there is no exact scientific equation in regards to the shape of your face, but there are some easy ways to get a pretty accurate answer:

First and foremost, let’s get an idea of what shape your face is. Pull you hair back and stand in front of a large mirror. Using a dry erase marker (or a lipstick), trace the shape of your face in the mirror. Once you traced your face, refer to the shapes above to see what best matches you!

Now that you have your “rough” answer, let’s read through some indicators to make sure you know you are getting the best answer possible.

+ Heart: If your chin is on the narrow side, yet you have a wide forehead, you have a heart shaped face. This is similar to the triangle but softer. Some celebrities with a heart shaped face: Reese Witherspoon, Carrie Underwood, Rachel Bilson.

+ Oblong: Similar to the oval shaped face, yet just a bit longer. Your jawline will probably be rounder, and the width of your face is the same everywhere. Some celebrities with an oblong shaped face: Kate Beckinsale, Liv Tyler, Eva Mendes.

+ Diamond: Somewhat of a hybrid, the diamond face is longer than it is wide (oblong) yet with sharp angles (square). Some celebrities with a diamond shaped face: Rihanna, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Bosworth.

+ Circle: I am sure we all know what a circle looks like but if not, here is how it goes. You have a rounded jaw, all sides of your face are just about the same length, and your cheek bones are the widest part of your face. Got it now? Some celebrities with a circle shaped face: Kirsten Dunst, Ginnifer Goodwin, Mila Kunis.

+ Square: if the sides of your face are all somewhat close to equal, your hairline is straight, and your jaw is pronounced, chances are you’re a square (your face that is). Some celebrities with a square shaped face: Demi Moore, Jennifer Anniston, Keira Knightly.

+ Rectangle: Your face is longer than it is wide with a square shaped jawline and possibly a square hairline as well. Some celebrities with a rectangle shaped face: Kate Winslet, Katie Holmes, Sarah Jessica Parker.

+ Oval: oval faces are usually longer than they are wide and are wider at the top (forehead) the bottom (chin). If this is your face shape, chances are you probably have a softer jawline as well. Some celebrities with an oval shaped face: Megan Fox, Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson.

+ Triangle: As mentioned above, this shape is similar to the heart, yet with sharper edges. The hairline will be more square, cheekbones will be pronounced, and the chin will be close to pointy. Some celebrities with a triangle shaped face: Victoria Beckham, Paris Hilton, Tyra Banks.
