How to Beat Blemishes in the Summer Heat

As the weather heats up, so do the blemishes on our skin. Sweating, oily skin, and excessive touching can cause a more than normal amount of breakouts during the summer time. Break outs can occur on the face, chest, back and other areas of skin that we would rather show off during the heat – not cover up to hide pimples and blackheads.

Try these fast and effect strategies to clear up blemishes and get skin into show-off mode quickly:

  1. Clean up! Wash affected areas daily with a 2% Salicylic Acid facial cleanser. The salicylic acid works to dry up white heads, while the cleanser removes any dirt and oils that might be clogging the pores. As the salicylic acid ingredient can be drying to the skin as a whole, finish your routine with an oil free lotion to keep skin soft and non-flakey.
  2. Stay hydrated! When your skin is not properly hydrated, it cannot flush out nasty toxins properly, which in turn causes breakouts.  While the temperature rises and sweating increases, it is vital to increase your water intake as well. Try to consume at least 50% of your body weight in fluid ounces. For example, if you weigh 130 pounds, you should be drinking at least 65 ounces of water/fluids daily.
  3. Hands Off! Make sure to resist the urge to pick at, pop, or in any other way purge your pimples. Picking at whiteheads can cause scarring and open up the area to further infection. Additionally, try to resist excess touching to the affected areas as this causes further oil build up. Wipe sweat with a handkerchief or even the back of your hand as this area carries less oil and bacteria.
